St. Charles Medical Center – Bend is Central Oregon’s largest hospital and the only Level II trauma center east of the Cascades. Owned by the not‑for‑profit St. Charles Health System, it operates 24/7 emergency services and is accredited by The Joint Commission.
The Bend facility comprises approximately 226 beds and functions as Central Oregon’s primary referral center. It offers comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care, including surgical services, imaging, laboratory diagnostics, specialty clinics, and intensive care.
The hospital’s emergency department is open round‑the‑clock and is equipped to handle high-acuity cases with Level II trauma resources—making it the region’s go-to facility for severe emergencies and accidents.
St. Charles Bend maintains accreditation from The Joint Commission and is part of a four-hospital network servicing Bend, Redmond, Prineville, and Madras. It employs over 3,000 caregivers and more than 800 medical staff across its system.
As the community’s largest employer, St. Charles Bend plays a central role in healthcare delivery across Deschutes County. It also collaborates with regional providers in specialty areas and supports public health initiatives throughout Central Oregon.
The emergency department operates 24 hours a day. For visiting hours, specific departments, appointments, or specialty referrals, patients can call (541) 382‑4321. Directions, parking information, and campus maps are available on the hospital’s official site.
